The OFW Gawad Parangal, hosted by KAKAMMPI, is an annual commemoration of thanking individuals, organizations, government institutions and private sectors who have unselfishly shared their resources for the welfare of OFWs here and abroad. It is celebrated every 18th of December which marks the International Migrants Day as decreed by the United Nations.
Other awardees include OWWA, Pag-IBIG Fund, Social Security System, PhilHealth, Metrobank, Bank of Commerce, KAMPI (Kabalikat ng Migranteng Pilipino Inc.), AWARE (Advancement of Workers Awareness Regarding Employment), Kaibigan ng OCW, GMA News Online, Jessica Soho, Noli De Castro, Charo Santos-Concio and Vice President Jejomar Binay.
KAKAMMPI (Kapisanan ng mga Kamag-anak at Migranteng Manggagawang Pilipino Inc.), established in 1983, is a NGO that blossomed into a massive network of local chapters in Metro Manila and adjacent provinces such as Rizal, Pampanga, Zambales, Pangasinan, Bataan, Ifugao, Benguet, Bicol, Cagayan, Tarlac, Tacloban, Iloilo, Cebu and Zamboanga. They were organized to protect the rights and welfare of OFWs and their families, as well as effectively respond to the growing problems of labor migration in the country.
