I-Remit joined the celebration of the Mabuhay Festival 2008 in Toronto held last July 18. The event, organized by the Philippine Independence Day Council (PIDC), with the support of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce (PCCI) in Toronto, partnered with Answering the Cry of the Poor (ANCOP) – Gawad Kalinga, was the most awaited event of the year For Filipinos in Ontario. It was held at Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
The annual event, which was conceptualized in 1999, is the largest celebration of Philippine Heritage and Culture in Canada and the most awaited gathering in the Filipino Community`s social calendar.
This year, the festival was made even more meaningful with PIDC`s partnership with ANCOP – Gawad Kalinga. Both organizations agreed to donate the funds generated from the event for the rehabilitation of a village in a disaster stricken region of Bicol.
Approximately 15,000 Filipinos participated in the event. Hence, a great opportunity for I-Remit to interact with Overseas Filipino Workers and migrants and showcase its different remittance services namely: I-Remit Visa Card, iCredit (credit to bank), iNotify (notify to pay), iDeliver (door to door) and iPay (SSS, Pag-IBIG, Philhealth).
To encourage more customers to visit the I-Remit booth, bag souvenirs were given away. Moreover, special promotions were offered, like “Visa Electron Card for only $1.00” and “$2.00 off on service fees”, to customers. Positive responses were also heard from them about the free Call and Click transactions coupons.
The highlight of the event was a performance from the bubbly and funny Ms. Ai Ai delas Alas. The huge crowd became wild and crazy because of her peculiar brand of humor. No wonder, everybody went home with a smile still etched on their faces.
Truly, Mabuhay Philippines Toronto Summer Festival is an affair to remember; a day of celebrating the rich Filipino culture and heritage and an avenue for supporting socially-relevant projects.
